This is the th oldest clibming region in St.Petersburg area. Climbing here began from 1950th. A lot of peaple going here just to get a rest in the nature, not only for climbing.
The main climbing area is located on the bank of Yastrebinoe lake, also there is a rocks on the banks of 2 nearby lakes - Klukvennoe an Svetloe. From 1996 the area declared as "Scecial Protected Nature Territory". This means not a national Park, but nearly the same - there is forbidden any mining, logging and building. Free access is allowed, but the visitors have to carry about the land. Fire is allowed only on organised fireplaces any no littering.
The area is a realyy bautifull, rock and pines reflected in the water of lake. Yastrebinoe means Hawk Lake in russian - from the top of the main rock ("Parnas") the lake looks like a big bird.
Climbing now is not the same as it was 60 years ago, but the area is convenient for a sport climbing. Yet there is a a few of hard routes. For a long time climbing here was only toproping, but the last years most of the routes was bolted. Also there was made a lot of new routes.
The fame to the area bocome with a climbing festival "Skalolazanie dlya vseh" - "Climbing for everyone" which takes place here yearly from 1988 at 9th May. The festival gathering thousands of sport climbers, alpinists and friends.
Camping.
There is a lot of places for camp on the banks of the lakes. Some of clases has a "constant inhabitans" - the sport sections. Pleace, talk po people befor staing nearby. Don't make a new fireplace - try to find a free place or talk to people. Fire is allowed, but there is a probleb to find a dreadwood, so take a camp stove for cooking.
Enfoque

By a car
1s way from Kulikovo. From St.Petersburg take Priozersk/Sortavala direction. Drive across Priozersk. Afrer a turn to Kuznechnoe the dirt road bagin after 500m. When the dirt road ends turn left to Hiitola direction. At the Kulikovo settlement you can find one 5th floor house and the shop after it. Turn left after the shop and drive adout 2km to the fild. Turn left on the junction and drive to the "Field parking place". Ther you can find a path to the lake.
2dn way from Bogatiri usually in the worse condition, but allow you to drive to the lake. From the same road to Sortavala turn left to Kuznechnoe. Drive accross Kuznechoe and follow about 3km to Bogatiri sattlement. Turn right and drive about 7-8km by the dirt road. Take right on th junction and drive about 5km more to the steep downhill. Take a look at downhill condition and if it is ok - drive down across the bridge to the lake.
By the common transportation
Take a train from St.Petersburg Finladskiy Station to Kuznechnoe. Then you can go by the path 15km or take a taxi to the "Field parking place". Aslo you can drive by the bus going to Sortavala to Hiitola junction by bus adn hichhike to Kulikovo (see 1st car way). The buses are going from Ozerki subway station in St. Petersburg.
