Agiofarango is one of the most popular climbing areas of Crete (Κρήτη). Located on the southern shore of the island, near the village of Kaloi Limenes, 75 km from the capital of the island, Heraklion (Ηράκλειο).

The length of the gorge is only 1.5 km. At the bottom of the gorge is a good trail that comes to a cozy bay with a wild pebble beach. They say it’s one of the best beaches in Crete – locals and climbers like to relax here. From the West the bay is closed by a rock, and part of the beach in the afternoon is in the shade. The beach is considered a nudist.

The geological rock formation is limestone: grottos, pillars, stalactites, pockets. 14 sectors are located on both walls of the gorge. A total of about 120 routes, most of which are medium and below average difficulty, there are several difficult routes in the caves. There are quite long routes and lines, need a rope 70 m. The area is developed by the local climbing community.

Agiofarango is the Gorge of the Saints. In the past it was inhabited by hermits. They say that now they are still here. Although it is difficult to imagine them in a narrow gorge, where at any time you can meet tourists, climbers and locals. In the center of the gorge is a Christian Church of the XIV century, open to visitors. Near the Church there is a water source, but this water smells bad. And there are no shops nearby, so bring water with you.

There is a large Parking area in front of the entrance to the gorge. But be careful not to Park the car under the trees, goats can climb on them to get to the foliage.
